Nurturing Talent Through Apprenticeships at N.E.J Stevenson

January 22, 2025

Apprenticeships are more than a training scheme—they are fundamental to our business model. On-the-job training is not only the best way to teach someone the skills and intricacies of our craft, but it is also a way to guarantee the sustainability of our workforce and the future of bespoke furniture making.

Taking on apprentices is a significant commitment, requiring both time and financial resources. However, we view it as a wise and necessary investment in the future. Many of our most expert craftsmen began their careers as apprentices.

In September 2023, we welcomed Ellis, who joined us with a passion for cabinetmaking that he discovered while studying carpentry at college after excelling in Design Technology at school. Now in his second year of the apprenticeship programme, Ellis is further honing his skills and attending Rycotewood Furniture College.

Freddie Harris, our newest apprentice joined us in September 2024. Freddie’s passion for making began at a young age, working with his parents on various projects and cultivating a deep love for craftsmanship. His early experiences inspired him to pursue a professional path in cabinetmaking, and we are thrilled to guide him as he develops his skills and grows as a craftsman.

We are excited to announce that applications for the next intake of our apprenticeship programme will open at the end of January. For more information about the programme contact Nicola Lafayette nicola@nejstevenson.co.uk for more information.
