CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Programme

"Having worked with N.E.J. Stevenson on a number of projects in the past, I went to their full day CPD last year at their workshop and found it incredibly interesting and useful. I invited Neil down to give a CPD to the rest of the company thinking we would get a condensed version of this talk. He took the time to visit and go through exactly what we would find most applicable and exciting and he built a bespoke CPD around our needs. We would like to thank Neil and N.E.J. Stevenson for the time, help and guidance they have given and look forward to continue learning and working with them in the future."

Tailored CPD modules

Can't find the time to attend a full day's training session in Rugby? Then perhaps you might prefer to select from our most frequently requested 30 minute training modules. Each is perfectly suited for delivery at your own premises over a lunchtime slot or alternatively you can combine all the modules into a two-hour session.

N.B CPDs are free when presented to a minimum of 6 suitable professionals. Where practises do not have sufficient numbers we are happy to co-ordinate joint practice presentations.

Module 1: Working with sub-contractors

An essential guide to selecting the right company for your project that explains what type and level of information is required for costing and what is expected from both parties and the consequences of change and indecision.

Module 2: Material selection – The most appropriate choice

This session specifically looks at tree species and the selection of different cuts and considers appearance, suitability and availability of solid timber and veneers as well as different manmade boards, their applications and sizes and a brief look at surface finishes.

Module 3: Timber sustainability

An introduction into the world of material certification and some of the common mistakes made in specification documents: what it all means, how it affects you and the impact on our planet; followed by news that it's all much simpler than you might currently think.

Module 4: Specifying joinery - The financial benefit

This session will show you how to avoid making early errors in specifying joinery that so often unnecessarily increase material budgets.

Module 5: An introduction to N.E.J. Stevenson

An entertaining story that recounts the journey of one man's redundancy to heading one of the UK’s most respected cabinet making companies.

"Thank you very much for your presentation last week. Please find below a few comments from the team:-

Thank you very much for a really interesting and informative CPD presentation last week. In the space of an hour, you managed to give us a really thorough seminar on a range of aspects relating to timber, from material selection to sustainability.

The team really appreciated your extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject and your company. We learnt a great amount on veneers and solid timbers and how to specify the right material depending on the type and complexity of work.

Many thanks once again for your enthusiasm and time!

Very best"

"Once again, thank you for an extremely informative and enjoyable session. The six of us attending learned a tremendous amount, particularly regarding rare timber species and the specification of timbers for specific applications.

The following discussion on the stock sizes of timbers and boards outlining the implications for tendering gave some of the more junior members of the team a very useful insight into the commerciality of specification.

On a personal level I found our discussions, and your explanations, of veneer production very rewarding as it refreshed my memory on some of the finer points.

Once more your extensive knowledge, enthusiasm and generosity of time was greatly appreciated by all.

Many thanks from all of us here."

"Thank you so much for your excellent presentation at our recent CPD seminar, your wide ranging knowledge, wit and obvious passion engaged our team fully, and many came up to me later to tell me how informative they found it.

Information provision is a much discussed topic within the office and your talk helped tremendously in gaining an understanding of the contractors' viewpoint - a benefit to all concerned.

As you know, discussions after the seminar revealed that several members of our team would like to learn more regarding certain aspects raised during your presentation. So thank you very much for agreeing to spend more time with us in the future by conducting an in-depth workshop; something I will look forward to!

Many thanks once again for your time and enthusiasm."
